Our Staff Physicians
At Palos Verdes Medical Group, our team consists of experienced, compassionate pediatricians, asthma specialists, allergists, immunologists, internists, and friendly, nurturing staff members who take pride in giving our patients the personalized care that they deserve.
All of our doctors are highly educated professionals who have undergone rigorous academic and clinical training in their specialties. We maintain a high level of expertise through continuing education in order to provide the most up-to-date care for the patients we are privileged to serve. The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff’s training, professional credentials, and work experience.
Lawrence D. Sher, M.D., FAAP, FAAAAI, FACAAI
Pediatrics, ADHD, Adult and Pediatric Allergy, Asthma & Immunology
Dr. Sher is board-certified in adult and pediatric asthma, allergy and immunology and pediatrics. He is active in both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and is currently a member of its immunotherapy committee in addition to the rhinitis and sinusitis committee.
Dr. Sher went to medical school at the University of Utah School of Medicine and completed a pediatric residency at University of California, Los Angeles and fellowship in allergy, asthma and immunology at both the UCLA Westwood and Harbor campuses. He has been in practice for 20 years in the Palos Verdes community. He founded Peninsula Research Associates in 1999, a clinical trials institute devoted to helping develop new vaccines and medications for asthma, allergies, ADHD and sleep disorders.
Nadra (Monica) Saad, M.D., FAAP
Newborns, Pediatrics & Adolescents
Dr. Saad is board-certified in pediatrics and has a special interest in preventive medical care, newborn care, and adolescent health. She is on staff at both Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Dr. Saad completed her residency at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and holds a fellowship with the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has also been PALS Certified. While she was living in Illinois, Dr. Saad was a member of the Healthy Children Program Committee through the American Academy of Pediatrics and was on the Board of Directors for the American Cancer Society, Downers Grove Unit from 1989 to 1990.
Dr. Saad has been in private practice for over 25 years. She joined Palos Verdes Medical Group in 1995. Dr. Saad has also been the sub-investigator for over 200 clinical trials at Peninsula Research Associates. Her clinical expertise includes studies focused on allergic rhinitis, asthma, chronic bronchitis, otitis media, pneumonia, sinusitis and vaccinations.
Laurence K. Gorlick, M.D.
Dr. Gorlick is board-certified in internal medicine and was also one of the first physicians to be board-certified in geriatrics in 1986. He is on staff at both Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital and is licensed to practice medicine in New York, Connecticut and California.
Dr. Gorlick completed his internal medicine residency at Norwalk Hospital which is in affiliation with Yale University School of Medicine. He was the former Director of Laboratory Medicine at ProHealth Partners and also spent many years working as an Associate Professor of Medicine and clinical instructor at UCLA St. Mary Medical Center.
Dr. Gorlick practiced general medicine for over 20 years in the Los Alamitos and Long Beach areas and has been practicing in the South Bay for over 10 years. He joined Palos Verdes Medical Group in 2001.
Stacey Lowen, M.D.
Newborns, Pediatrics & Adolescents
Dr. Lowen joined the Palos Verdes Medical Group team in 2010. She attended medical school at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles and received her undergraduate degree at UCLA as well. Dr. Lowen completed her pediatric residency through UCLA at the Mattel Children's Hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and at the Olive View County Medical Center. Dr. Lowen continues to stay active in the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Stephanie Chen, M.D.
Internal Medicine, Pediatrics
Dr. Chen received her undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis. She attended medical school at the University of Utah School of Medicine and completed her pediatric and internal medicine residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Dr. Chen joined Palos Verdes Medical Group full-time in August 2012.
Dr. Chen worked at the Huntsman Cancer Institute studying protein-protein interactions involved in leukemia. For the past four years she taught lectures and led activities for neighborhood children on various health subjects. Dr. Chen also volunteered at the 4th Street Homeless Clinic and with Sight Savers, a charity that conducts visual acuity and glaucoma screening tests in an effort to prevent avoidable blindness. Dr. Chen is also fluent in Mandarin.
